The remarks by Fischer, 43, were conveyed live on NASA TV as he and his partner Peggy Whitson, 57, started the 200th spacewalk at the circling station.
The spacewalk was quickly deferred after National Aeronautics and Space Administration found a water spill in hardware that powers their spacesuits.
The official begin time, 9:08 am (1308 GMT), was around two hours after it should start, as indicated by NASA.
